The basics - How to start resistance training

If you follow me on any social media platform or via this blog, you know that I never shut up about resistance training.... that is because it is important as hell to your overall fitness! Resistance training is what is going to stop you from finding it hard to get up and down from the floor, it's going to leave you strong enough to lug around your 8 year old when they are whinging about walking up a hill, it's going to be the thing that makes the most difference to your body composition.


I know that it can be scary to try resistance training for the first time so check out these 3 videos and their tips.... practice them at home if it makes you feel more prepared for class... and then get booked in and come and visit us to start your resistance training journey!

THE SQUAT

* move straight down allowing your butt to move back and your body to lean slightly

* keep your shoulders above the middle of the foot

* distribute the weight through the ball of the foot and through the heel

* lift your chest pulling your shoulder blades back and down

* allow your knees to move outwards so that your arse is on!



THE LUNGE

* distribute the weight through the ball of the foot and through the heel

* bend your back knee and lift your back heel from the floor

* lift your chest pulling your shoulder blades back and down

* move straight down allowing your knee to move forward slightly but without shunting all the pressure through the front knee



THE PRESS-UP

* hands in line with the pec, slightly wider than the shoulder

* head moves forward so it is infront of your finger tips

* elbows move diagonally backwards

* core tight and glutes activated
