The first sesh back can be off-putting for anyone, whether that's solo, in the gym or in a class but believe me we ALL feel the same. It feels rank for absolutely everyone, me included, but once it's done, it's done and every other workout will feel a whole lot easier.
I've been lifting on my usual schedule over the break but I have done zero cardio apart from walking. This is mostly because I have my eyebrows topped up as soon as I finish teaching and then I can't sweat for the 10 days after.... but, just like everyone else, I didn't bother re-starting it as soon as the 10 days was up and instead decided to leave it until this week, mostly because I was having a nice time with some cheese.
Does this mean my first class back tomorrow is going to be moderately taxing. Yes. Especially because I have to be able to talk and dance at the same time BUT I've got almost 2 days before I need to do that so I'm going to do 10 minutes on a spin bike at the gym today & tomorrow just to get things moving... the spin bike because then I can do it in time to the music (which is the only way I like to do my cardio).
EVERYONE feels like crap their first session back after a break. It's the same after a 2 week holiday somewhere sunny. It's just part of the peaks and troughs of our workout life - we need a break to let our body have a bit of time off, but when we have the break it makes the first sesh back feel a bit like a hike up a mountain. Lovely when it's done but pretty overwhelming 10 minutes in.
Have no fear, whenever you first workout is this week, we are ALL feeling the same. So wherever you are, give yourself a pat on the back and know that we are with you in spirit.... and if I'm seeing you tomorrow night, know that I'll be up there being very glad I have to demo the low impact stuff regularly instead of going full out for the entire class lol.
Happy New Fitness Year everyone... I don't really do resolutions but I do love the clean slate that January brings.... especially because the weather is minging and none of us really have any wild social plans for a couple of weeks.
See you somewhere fitnessy soon,
